Our next travel day didn’t start until ten in the morning because we were in the sea doing body boarding. Once we were on the road with two hours left became four hours as we got stuck in traffic from a car crash for an hour and a half since we had brought lunch with us, we decided it was a good time to eat it. After a long day we finally arrived at the Sandra hotel and were shown to our bungalow / room. Turns out the hotel also has a fire pit and different activities you could do every day if you wanted. For dinner we went to the hotel’s restaurant. I had a burger. When we came back to the room, they had made our beds and given us a hot water bottle and a chocolate.

The next day we went to another nature reserve/national park but unlike the others you could eat food in this one. We had lunch there. To get in you had to show them your tickets and they gave you cards that you scan to get in and out with. There was a lot of insects and millipedes but the only big animals we saw were monkeys and I didn’t even see them. This walk felt a lot junglier than the others because it was colder and wetter. And I enjoyed it more. We even went through the clouds, but you can’t sit on them like in stories because you would fall straight to the ground. We saw lots of birds including wrens and a baby parrot.  We went over a suspension bridge and whenever you jumped the whole bridge wobbled. We also went to a waterfall but since we had seen so many massive and impressive waterfalls already it wasn’t very interesting.

That afternoon we went to a snake chat at the hotel, and they talked about a venomous green snake. There are 13 types of venomous snakes in Costa Rica. Even though I really don’t like snakes I still really enjoyed it and found it very interesting. At the beginning another anguish family had asked to put the fire on because it was a bit chilly but at the end the person doing the speech asked if we wanted to do s’mores and everyone said yes, I had two with chocolate.

That evening we went to a restaurant that had a tree in the middle of it and live music. The music was very traditional, and the tree was lit up by led’s. It was a very nice evening, and I had a lovely chocolate cake and ice cream with it. After that we went to bed.

The best bit of this trip came the next day. Zip lining through the jungle and a surprise at the end. We got given a little handle to hold on to and there was seven zip line sin total including the practise one.

Since me and Hatty were a bit light for some of them, we had to go together a few times or with mum and dad. To get up though you had to do the practise one then get a cable car up to the top. Mum was screaming the whole time really scared, Hatty and dad were smiling and shouting and laughing the whole way and I was really calm and didn’t talk at all. It was really fun, and you had to open your legs wide when they tell you to. My favourite part though was the surprise at the end. You had to be over a certain weight, and I was just heavy enough though sadly Hatty couldn’t do it so just me and mummy did it. It was like a bungee jump, but the harness was around your chest instead of your ankles, mum screamed loads, but I didn’t scream too much. The man in front saw his wife go and backed out. Mum and dad both said I was really brave.

Me bungee jumping at the end

Once we got back, we had pot noodles in the hotel room. Me and daddy both ate ours in under ten minutes so we could get to the bar before the champions league final started as they were showing the match in there. I don’t support either Man City or Inter Milan but i decided to support city as a few of my friends from. School and other clubs support city. It was a very tense match with only one goal scored. After that we went to the bonfire that was inside and had s’mores with another family and watched Elton john. That evening we went to the choco café where I had chicken nuggets and chips with a side of vegetables.

The next day we went to a nature reserve that we went to for free as part of the deal with the hotel. To get there you had to go over a suspension bridge and mummy screamed when I made the whole thing jump and rock. Even though it was called the agouti national park we didnt see any agoutis, but we did see a load of millipedes, cobwebs and trees taken over by ficus. We also saw lots of capuchin monkeys and with the binoculars they were really easy to see. It felt very jungly. After the walk we did a sustainability tour at the hotel which was about how the hotel was sustainable. When they first bought the hotel, it was originally another hotel, so they used the same buildings and if the flooring or furniture needed fixing, they did. That helped both the environment and it made it cheaper. They also instead of buying loads of little bottles/tubs of soap they just bought massive tubs and whenever someone left, they would top them up. We also got to plant a hibiscus to help the environment. At the end we gota smoothie. I didn’t like it, but mummy, Hatty and daddy all liked it. For lunch we went to a Small little restaurant/ bar. I had chicken quesadilla. That afternoon we chilled and then at 5:40pm we were picked up in a minivan with another couple to go on a night walk. We waited a bit, so it got dark before setting off. We all got given hand torches. I was terrified because I am scared of the dark, I don’t like insects, spiders or snakes and it was very spooky. I do like frogs though. Hatty really wanted to see a snake, but we didn’t see one thankfully. We did see though :

  • Frogs 🐸
  • Insects 🪳
  • Giant stick insect
  • Scorpion 🦂
  • Sleeping birds 🐦‍⬛
  • Possum 🦡
  • Tarantulas 🕷️
  • Salamander 🌚
  • Crickets 🦗
  • Spiders 🕷️
  • Giant ants 🐜

Once we got back at 8:30 wen had our pot noodles 🍜 whilst we watched race across the world.  📺

The next day we packed up and left Monteverde. Well not immediately. First we went a Costa Rican school it only had ten kids but normally it had 16. They ranged from six to eleven in one class room with one teacher teaching them all. We arrived as break was starting. I became very friendly with the two oldest boys called Joseph and xylon. We played basketball. They also had a slide with swings and a climbing friends. We did some gymnastics then they learnt a bit of English from us and we learnt a bit of Spanish from them. At the end we donated some of ours old clothes that didn’t fit us and some books. We also bought some sweets that w bought at the shop. At the end they shared them out. We even got some. They said that they would use the rest for there Father’s Day gifts. Very quickly the time came to say goodbye I would have loved to go to school there.

We then started the drive to a small town about an hour away from where we were staying for lunch. I had the biggest chocolate milkshake ever. On  our way we went and after some difficulties we found our air b&b. Me and Hatty both screamed when we saw the pool in our front garden.

More when we settle in there.

  1. Hi Lottie, sorry you’re having trouble finding the elusive agouti but I’m sure he’s more upset at not seeing you😁. You were great to read to the children in the school, is your Spanish improving?. You will have to start learning Japanese now for your upcoming visit to Japan. I’m afraid I can’t help you there as I can barely speak English 😂. If you learn , Hello, Goodbye. Thank you that should be sufficient, you don’t need to ask how much as mum and dad will be paying 👍. One more thing what is s’mores? I haven’t got a clue or maybe I’m just having a Bart Simpson moment. Love Gaga

  2. You were brave doing that bungee jump as a surprise ending to the zip lines! Looked very scary! Glad you got to visit a school and kindly gave them some gifts. You must have seen great differences from your lives and food choices. Glad you didn t see snakes though they are always more scared of people than we think!
    See you soon
    Love G and G xx

  3. It’s pay back time for Mum. Years ago, she rocked the suspension bridge at Corrieshalloch Gorge in Scotland and scared me!!! What goes around comes around, as they say!
