We got in a pickup truck and we were in it for only half an hour to get to Bukit Lawang! It felt like we were a bag of potatoes in the back of the truck. We got to our place and went to our room. We went for a walk around the markets looking for some long light trousers. My mum got a pair and I did too. Just mine needed to be adjusted so we could come back later to get them. There was a big river going down the middle of the town and we saw lots of people swimming in it with their clothes on. There were some people on rings attached together and going down the river and the rapids; they were coming back from a hiking morning. After a bit we went for lunch. I had spicy noodles and they weren’t too bad. Our parents told us that we were going to stay somewhere else because of certain reasons. We packed our bags and went to the orangutan hotel. It was a proper hike to get up but the room was enormous and it had an amazing view. There was also monkeys all around the town! They just walk around and the baby ones are so cute. We chilled in the room for a bit and then had a drink and a chat with our tour guide for tomorrow. After about 45 minutes we went out for dinner. I had noodles again and they were better than lunch. We went back to the room and I saw a frog on the way up. We went to bed and luckily it was cooler tonight, during the night there was a massive party and it kept us up for a bit.

The next two days I am just going to talk about together because we did the same thing for both days. The next day we got up and then went downstairs. Today we were going into the jungle! For breakfast I had a banana and chocolate pancake which was really good! Our tour guide arrived about 08:30am and we went off for the day! On the way to the national park we saw a massive ant and a pit viper! The pit viper was just in the bush and it was massive! It wasn’t too hot today but we were still hot because we were wearing trousers and had our trousers tucked into our socks incase there are leeches. When we entered the park, straight away we saw orangutan 🦧 ! They were sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cool!!! They’re super close and their faces are amazing and their red fur just makes you want to cuddle them! They swung from the trees and were some of the cutest things I had ever seen! The faces looked fake and the colour of their fur is amazing 🥲! We saw two female orangutans and you can tell if they’re female or male if they have a beard for not. The environment was very jungley and you have to be careful where you step because there are roots and stumps everywhere. We also saw a couple more massive ants and some other cool bugs. We saw a massive orangutan who was just amazing! The face was amazing and his whole body especially his arms were massive! He was beautiful but I think people were getting too close to it. We also saw a baby orangutan with its mum and it was so cute! On both days we had a fruit snack of watermelon 🍉, pineapple 🍍, banana 🍌, dragon fruit 🐉 and hairy fruit 🍈! It was so good and hairy fruit is like lychee and now one of my new favourite foods. On the second day we saw a sleeping orangutan which was so cute! We saw two orangutans that were putting on quite a show by doing some amazing swinging! We saw a massive orangutan that was just wandering about on the floor and we got really close to it. On both days at the end of the walk we went on rubber rings on the way back! Me and mum sat in one tube, so did my sister and dad and there was two men in two more tubes who pushed us on the river! We went through a couple of big rapids and it was so much fun! We got very wet and the last rapid was enormous. On the second day we got off and got changed and went for lunch. After lunch we got into swim gear and walked down to the river! On the way we saw some monkeys which were really cute. We found a spot at the river to swim in and I dived right in. The river takes you down it very quickly so you have to be careful. I loved jumping in and then floating down the river and then grabbing onto a rock to stop me from floating away! I loved swimming in the river and I made a little rock tower on the rocks to mark my print. We chilled at the hotel and then we went out for dinner and drinks.

The next day we could get up as late as we wanted. We saw monkeys on our balcony and they were coming up on a telephone wire! They were in the hammocks and we saw a couple of really cute baby ones! We went down for breakfast and I had another lemon and sugar pancake. We packed in the room and then drove to the airport.

We have had a lot of fun here and its time to move on to the next island! See you later alligators!

  2. Hi Hatty, I hope you don’t meet any alligators 🐊’s 😅. Loved the view from your balcony and must be great fun having monkeys as your house guests. The rafting sounds great especially the rapids, it sounds like the most rural place that you have stayed in. I hope you haven’t had too many bites from those dreaded 🦟, horrible things. Is the next stop by the sea?. Hopefully it will be a bit cooler. Bye for now. Love Gaga

    • Hi gaga, the rafting was so much fun one of my favourite things about thew place! Orangutans were amazing, we saw one that was almost as old as you!!! Mosquitos aren’t great, going to the gilly islands next but there’s still mosquitos there just not as many. Very happy we don’t have to climb so many steps though. Hatty Xxx
